Throwing and Surface Decoration Workshop
With Claire Seastone

The Molokai Arts Center (MAC) is best known for its ceramics classes and is excited to bring a guest ceramicist to Molokai to present a two-day workshop. On August 23 and 24, from 1-6pm, Claire Seastone will do a “Throwing and Surface Decoration Workshop” for adults with basic knowledge of working on the potters wheel.

 On the first day, participants will be throwing on the potters wheel and making functional forms like cups, mugs, bowls, and pitchers. On the second day, students will learn surface treatment sgraffito, inlay, slip trailing, decoration and carving. Cost is $60 and includes a tool kit. Current MAC members pay a discounted rate of $48. Registration is now open online.

 Claire has been working with clay for 22 years making functional and sculptural work in porcelain and stoneware. She has taught and worked in various clay studios in Montana, Oregon, Italy, and Hawai`i. A deep love of the natural world is a major influence in her work. Her time spent outdoors serves as inspiration in her pieces, and she strives to convey in her work some of the subtle grace and vitality inherent in objects of the natural world.

 Claire strives to to bring objects of beauty into the rituals of daily life to enrich people’s lives. Her current home in Kona, Hawai`i provides an endless supply of natural wonders to contemplate and enjoy.
